Adelaide Alsop Robineau: Glory in Porcelain
Published in Hardcover by Syracuse Univ Pr (Trade) (December, 1981)
Author: Peg Weiss
Average review score:

I love this book and have read it over and over.
This is a wonderful book about a very inspirational potter who lived in Syracuse, N.Y., around the turn of the century. Much of her work is found in the Everson Museum now because she dared promote herself and ask them to buy her work. The book is filled with beautiful pictures of works such as the Scarab Vase, the Crab Vase, and many, many others. Adelaide left recipes for her glazes so that porcelain artists might take her experiments further. I have tried them and altered them and am greatful to her for sharing them. Also interesting are the pictures of Adelaide's home and studio, which are still in Syracuse, although not open to the public. This woman is very inspiration in the way she led her life, from opening an art school for the children, to publishing her Keramic Magazine, and especially for the porcelain for which she is so well known. If you are a porcelain artist today, you will probably really like this book.

wonderful pictures and cataloghe of AAR's work.
This book contains a wonderful collection of photographs in black and white and in color. Included are also photographs of AAR's house and photographs of her with well known art potters of her day. You will also find some interesting remarks by her husband describing what she went through to create crystalline glazed porcelain.

Appley Dapply's Nursery Rhymes
Published in Hardcover by Frederick Warne & Co (September, 1987)
Author: Beatrix Potter
Average review score:

The magic of Beatrix Potter
"Appley Dapply's Nursery Rhymes," by Beatrix Potter, is a great example of the whimsical charm of this great children's author. The rhymes are accompanied by Potter's whimsical, richly detailed illustrations of her animal characters. A typical rhyme: "Gravy and potatoes / In a good brown pot-- / Put them in the oven, / and serve them hot!"

In this book we meet such characters as old Mr. Pricklepin the hedgehog, and a dapper guinea pig. And in Potter's version, the old woman who lived in a shoe is a mouse. A fun, timeless book.

Appley Dapply's Nursery Rhymes
Mother Goose is not the only one who knows how to write nursery rhymes! This book is a collection of seven charming nursery rhymes by Beatrix Potter. Each one deals with animals such as little mice, rabbits, a hedgehog, a mole, a pig and a guinea pig. The paintings are as usual quaint and lovely. A wonderful companion book is "Cecily Parsley's Nursery Rhymes" also by this talented author and illustrator. I always love Ms. Potter's books and this collection of rhymes is a great way to introduce young children to her magical world of intriguing human-like animal characters.

Archaeological Perspectives on the American Civil War
Published in Paperback by University Press of Florida (February, 2003)
Authors: Clarence R. Geier, Stephen R. Potter, and Jim Lehrer
Average review score:

Brilliant, insightful, fascinating reading
This is an absoulutely brilliant work and makes fascinating reading for any Civil War Buff, collector or digger. Very well written articles that belie any misaprehensions that this may be too technical a subject. I couldn't put it down. It exemplifies the belief that "every artifact has a story to tell." Highly recommended.

An interesting look at historical Archaeology
This is an excellent book for the anyone interested both archaeology and history. Many people do not know what a great deal of information can be gleaned from an archaeological analysis of historic sites. The authors look at several archaeological studies done on the Civil War, especially the battle of Antietam, and shed some new light on military strategies, the ebb and flow of battlefields, and the daily lives of soldiers and citizens. A must-read for any Civil War buff and anyone interested in seeing how archaeology can affect the historical record.

With photographs of potter from the Getty museum
Athenian Vase Construction: A Potter's Analysis details in a comprehensive, step-by-step fashion the manner in which the major Athenian vases (one of the world's finest ceramic traditions) were made. Photographs of potter from the Getty museum and other collections provide evidential documentation (from the interiors and exteriors of the pots themselves) as to how they were formed and constructed, while line drawings illustrate how the potter worked. Highly recommended for personal, professional, and academic reference collections, Athenian Vase Construction showcases them as painted masterpieces, from their graceful lines and elegant proportions forming an enduring aesthetic of form and beauty that has never been surpassed and rarely equaled in the more than two thousand years since their original creation.

so far so good
As a nursing student I am finding this book very comprehensive and easy to understand. Examples are helpful and the language is very clear and unintimidating. Very friendly. I will probably hang on to this one as a reference for a few years.

Potter and Perry have done an excellent job of describing and detailing the general information that a first year nursing student needs. Clear definitions, easy to read and understand tables and graphs, accurate and understandable diagrams and photos. This is a book that anyone can use no matter what your knowledge base is in the beginning. The study questions, key terms, and objectives are very helpful in studying and test preparation. This book also details steps for procedures in a clear and concise manner. With subjects from development to death covered, there really isn't a need for any other reference material.

Beatrix Potter: Baby Record Book, B09
Published in Ring-bound by C R Gibson Co (July, 1990)
Author: Beatrice Potter

Great Baby Journal
I used this for my first baby, and will get another for my second. This book has all the entries you might want to record your baby's first years. They have lots of envelopes in the back to save momentos (hospital bracelets, first haircuts, etc) and because it's a binder, you can get refills and continue to chart your little one's life. Also, the entries are non-sectarian, so you don't have to skip pages if you don't celebrate specific holidays or events.

Greatest Baby Book - and expandable!
This is the best baby book I've seen - perfect for my first child, I've now ordered a new one for my second. They have every possible catagory and entry a parent could want. It's a binder and expandable, and I have purchsed the refills when needed. Also, plenty of envelopes in the back of the book to save the hospital bracelets, first hairclippings, etc.

Note - the book is non-sectarian, which was important to me. I didn't want to have to cross out things like "baby's christening" and other events because we don't celebrate them.

HIGH QUALITY - MOST EXCELLENT
From the battlefields of Virginia to the Colorado territory comes Colonel Bennet Avery Morgan - his mission - to stop the rebel raids on the Union supply trains. Especially to secure the safety of the shipment of Winchester repeater rifles due in six or eight weeks.

There is a rebel force of about two hundred men under the leadershop of Captain Sean Mallory and Lieutenant Tom Braden who have been making successful raids on the Union Supply trains. They have found a hidden valley, behind a waterfall, that has kept them safe for many months.

Ah, then Ryan Mallory, Sean's sister shows up as she has no where else to go. She is gifted with healing knowledge and takes care of any of the sick and injured men. Ryan has an innocent joy of life and happy attitude. But she is still troubled with nightmares.

Follow her through the mysteries of her brother's past friendship with Colonel Morgan and what lead to the final breakup. It takes a lot of perseverance on her part to break down Colonel Ben Morgan's emotional shield that he keeps around his heart.
Yet neither can deny the strong attraction for each other, although Ben is resistent to his growing feelings.

How can you keep one of the main characters a prisoner and still have an excellent story. But it works! Follow the trials and tribulations of Ben Morgan, who was stubborn enough to survive the unheard of double snake bite and a broken leg, his crushing remorse at the lose of Sean's friendship and his growing love for the southern belle from Texas.

You will follow Jimmie, a self appointed protector of Ryan, and and intense follower of his beloved Captain Mallory. Lt. Tom Braden, who must bring help to rescue Sean. And Corporal Wilson, who has a deep hatred of the Union soldiers after his brother got killed in Virginia. A dangerous man to have guarding Ben Morgan.

This is a fantasticly entrancing story and a lot closer to the reality of the men and women of those historical times.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - this is definitely a keeper with a great cast of characters. Definitely loved the epilog.

From the Author of "Swampfire"
Ryan Mallory had risen from the ashes of personal tragedy with a fierce passion for life. In the Colorado hideout of her Rebel brother, she won the hearts of every soldier with her gentle ways and giving nature. But her greatest challenge came from Ben Morgan, a bitter, lonely Union colonel haunted by scorned love and hardened by years of war and isolation.

As the South crumbled around them, Ryan fought her own battles as she struggled to teach both her brother and the taciturn Morgan to trust...and to forgive.

The Brave Little Seamstress
Published in Hardcover by Atheneum (01 May, 2002)
Authors: Mary Osborne and Giselle Potter
Average review score:

Giselle Potter's drawings are fun
A little seamstress kills seven flies with one blow ' and sets off to tell the world of her accomplishment, which she stitches on the back of her coat. When a giant sees her coat and believes '7 with one blow' means seven giants felled, trouble erupts in this whimsical take-off on the traditional story. Giselle Potter's drawings are fun.

"Seven With One Blow!"
"One summer day a little seamstress sat by her window, eating bread and jam. When the jam attracted a swarm of flies, she tried to wave them away. But the flies, who didn't speak English, kept coming back. Finally the little seamstress lost her patience. She grabbed a cloth and swung it at the windowsill..." Looking down, the little seamstress was astonished to find that she had killed seven. She considered this feat so remarkable, that she embroidered her success on the back of her favorite coat. "Seven with one blow!" Well, the world needed to hear about this, and so the little seamstress put on her coat and set out on what turns out to be the adventure of a lifetime. Unfortunately, her message is misunderstood by everyone who sees it, and before her journey's finished, and she's living happily-ever-after as a good and wise queen, the little seamstress needs to outwit giants, capture a unicorn and a wild boar, and finally outsmart a not so nice king..... Mary Pope Osborne and Giselle Potter are back, and those who loved their first "female revisionist" fairy tale, Kate And The Beanstalk, will be delighted with this latest offering. Based on the old Brothers Grimm story, The Brave Little Tailor, this dynamic duo again give their spirited retelling a decidedly feminist twist. Ms Osborne's engaging text is filled with wit, and kids will be rooting for their resourceful and sassy heroine as she meets and conquers each challenge. Ms Potter's marvelously clever illustrations are rich in humor and eye-catching detail and capture the story beautifully. Perfect for youngsters 4-8, The Brave Little Seamstress is an entertaining, fun-filled read you definitely don't want to miss.

Cecily Parsley's Nursery Rhymes
Published in Hardcover by Frederick Warne & Co (September, 2002)
Author: Beatrix Potter

Nursey Rhymes
This is a very cute little book of seven nursery ryhmes, Beatrix Potter style. It is, of course, illustrated with little animals as the characters, showing exactly what the rhyme would be. It is cute, and the rhymes are nice to just memorize and teach to your brothers, sisters, or little cousins. This is yet another great Beatrix Potter book. I especially like the little rhyme about farming and the little guiena pigs are working hard. They are so cute, especially the one with the little green raincoat. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes animals.
~Camille

Cecily Parsley's Nursery Rhymes
Cecily Parsley's Nursery Rhymes is Beatrix Potter's second collection of nursery rythmes, the first being Appley Dapply's Nursery Rhymes. Some are familiar like "Three Blind Mice" and "This Pig Went to Market", while others such as "The Guinea-Pig's Garden" are her own. As always the illustrations are lovely and I especially like the two for the "Cecily Parsley" verse. This little book is perfect for young children.

Ceramics in Terms of Fabric, Finish and Technique: A Reverse Dictionary of Types

Author: Ima Potter
Average review score:

A Potter's Guidebook
Refreshing approach, this reverse dictionary! Outstanding aid for collectors, and a MUST HAVE for studio ceramists. Anyone in need of an easy reference guide to ware types chocked full of nit-picking details on the whats and wheres and howtos ... and whys ... will cherish this book's offerings. And, potters rejoice, for a book by a potter for potters. And historins? They are treated to a treasure trove. Hats off to the author. Hope he/she has more on the way.

Reverse Dictionaries
Reverse dictionaries, references that list subjects by their common descriptions rather than by their common "names" (brands, manufacture, location, etc.), are handy indeed, and needed for most all subjects. Hooray, then, that someone has finally come up with a reverse dictionary for ceramics, where one can, for instance, look for PORCELAIN, get a DETAILED DESCRIPTION, and then be treated to where one can find EXEMPLARY PIECES. That this dictionary has been put together by a long-time practicing ceramist adds unusual and very helpful richness.
Highly recommended for anyone's library.
